John Michael Young, 66

Florence resident John Michael Young died Wednesday, June 8. He was 66.
He was born in Warsaw and attended elementary school here before his family moved to Florence. He is fondly remembered by many in Gallatin County and played bass guitar in a local band while in high school.
Mr. Young was a barber for 47 years at Young’s Barber Shop in Florence where he worked with his father, the late Jim Young. His cousin, Doug Young, said John was the finest barber he had ever known.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam.
“He was quiet, respectful and had a laid-back attitude,” remembers Erma Jean Alexander of Warsaw. “He died suddenly and everyone who knew him is devastated. He was a great person likable, lovable, kind and decent in every way.”
He is survived by his wife, Karen Young; three daughters, Crystal Raines, Jennifer Borcher and Jillian Skidmore; two brothers, Jim Young and Jeff Young; one sister, Leah Beckerich; and four grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday, June 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Stith Funeral Home on U.S. 42 in Florence.
The funeral service was held Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
