Vachel H. Craig, 86

 Indiana resident Vachel H. Craig died Monday, June 21, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. He was 86 years old.
Born in Warsaw to Floyd and Mary Louise McDanell Craig, Mr. Craig moved to Indiana when he was in the eighth grade and graduated from Patriot High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged after fighting in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and battles and received the EAME Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Stars, the Good conduct Medal and the World War II Victory medal.
He retired after working in heavy construction for 45 years. He was a 45-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers. He also worked part time as a mail carrier for the Patriot Post Office.
He farmed all of his life and was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church.
Visitation was held Thursday, June 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay, Ind., and on Friday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service was held immediately following visitation.
Burial was the East View Cemetery in Patriot.
Memorials are suggested to the New Liberty Baptist Church or the East View Cemetery Association.
